Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a uninhabited area of Montreal Island, which is known as West Island. This part of the island known as West Island can be confusing to people unfamiliar with its meaning. Many people believe that it's an island to the to the west of Montreal however it is actually a part of the city. West Island encompasses everything between the cities in Lachine and West. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time was not long in the city. Brugel was raised in Courtice close to Oshawa, Ontario. Early ambitions were to become an expert dancer. Then, a growth spurt caused her to outgrow every dance partner she had. A Toronto Star article revealed she's 6 feet 1 inch tall and has heels. When I reached the height of my male counterparts, I stopped. Many former dancers turn to acting and in the case of Brugel, it was a suggestion from a high school drama teacher which encouraged her to go in that direction. It was her teacher who encouraged her to try out to play the character of Anne in the school's annual production. The student tried it out, and was eventually cast as the lead of Anne of Green Gables. She was awarded the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to take part in York University's Theater Program which she completed at the age of 20 with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts. Since then, she's appeared in over 60 productions both smaller and large. One of the most memorable was when she landed the role of Rita in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian in the Season 1 The Handmaid's Tale cast and seen only occasionally, was the sole Canadian.
